Why IT Leaders Are Turning to Nutanix

Key Takeaways from .Next London

From AI and Containers to Hybrid Multicloud, find out why organisations are exploring Nutanix as they navigate rising costs, security challenges, and Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware.

Last week, NG-IT attended the Nutanix .Next event in London and to say it was oversubscribed would be an understatement.

As a Nutanix Cloud Champion Partner, we’ve been helping organisations adopt the Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP) for many years and have attended a number of these events. However, this year was different to previous years with 50% of the organisations in attendance not currently using Nutanix.

Why is this significant?

This time last year, Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware was completed, sparking uncertainty around ongoing costs, support, and R&D investments.

Additionally, IT complexity is at an all-time high. Organisations are creating and managing more data than ever across various environments. The security threat landscape continues to expand, costs are rising, but budgets are shrinking or staying the same at best, and there’s an ongoing shortage of skills in areas such as containers, cloud, security, and AI. IT Leaders are curious about how Nutanix can help them navigate these choppy waters.

There were some interesting presentations and customer interviews throughout the day, covering several key topics (which we’ll come onto shortly). However, from our perspective, Nutanix offers a unique solution to many of the challenges faced by businesses today.

What do Nutanix do?

For those less familiar, Nutanix provides a simple-to-use software platform that businesses can run their apps and data on. Think of it like a consumer-grade experience, like an iPhone, but for IT teams. Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP) makes managing, storing, protecting and securing critical apps and data straightforward, so you can run any app, anywhere, with ease.

Key themes from the event

There were three main topics covered at the event: AI, Containers and Hybrid Mutlicloud. Here’s a brief overview of each:

AI

Nutanix announced Nutanix Enterprise AI, a new offering that brings generative AI to life for organisations. There’s no need to hire a team of AI experts, Nutanix allows your existing IT teams to deploy AI models and secure APIs through a simple interface. You can import your own Large Language Models (LLMs) or leverage pre-validated models from the NVIDIA NGC or Hugging Face catalogues. Easily manage access to your LLMs using role-based access control, while providing audit, monitoring, and testing tools in a single dashboard.

Containers

Kubernetes has become the industry standard for managing containerised workloads. Nutanix offers a turnkey solution for production-ready Kubernetes. The Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) simplifies platform engineering and offers enhanced observability and security. You decide where you run NKP, be that on Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI), bare-metal servers, or public cloud engines like AWS EKS or Azure AKS.

Hybrid Multicloud

You may wonder “what does this term mean?”
Simply put, most organisations have workloads running in the datacentre, at the edge, and across one or more public cloud environments. This approach often creates operational complexity, needing different skills to manage these environments. It also creates workload mobility and cost challenges. Nutanix simplifies this by providing a unified platform. IT teams only need to learn how to operate Nutanix, from which they can make intelligent workload placement decisions based on factors such as performance, cost, security, and governance.

Our Key Takeaways

In summary, this was a brilliant event that was enjoyed by those who attended. It’s evident that curiosity in how Nutanix can help organisations navigate the current complex IT landscape has never been stronger.
