Bring your own device (BYOD) with Nimble Storage’s VDI data storage

If your business is under increasing pressure to make its IT budget go further, why not opt to deploy a VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure). Desktop virtualisation does not just bring time and cost efficiencies but also makes your IT ready for a bring your own device (BYOD) programme. With traditional systems, when it comes to software upgrades or maintenance, each machine needed upgrading and monitoring individually, which is incredibly time consuming – especially if you need to deploy a new brand new application or system, however with VDI you can deploy multiple desktops in a short period of time and...

Nimble Storage Featured as a Visionary in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for General-Purpose Disk Arrays

Gartner recently issued their “General-Purpose Disk Arrays Magic Quadrant” for 2013 with Nimble Storage placed in the Visionaries Quadrant. This is great result for Nimble Storage when you consider that in the past Gartner has divided the storage market into SAN , NAS and mid-range storage, but for the first time has combined them into a single Disk Array Magic Quadrant. Gartner has included Nimble Storage as one of just 20 vendors selected out of a whole host of vendors delivering enterprise class data storage systems. “Gartner expects the advantages of the traditional high-end enterprise storage arrays to disappear over...

Have the Mainstream Storage Vendors taken their eye off the ball?

Mainstream storage vendors have a potentially significant issue with their product strategy and the hybrid array new boys are now chipping away at their client base. Nimble Storage, specifically, appear to be benefiting at the expense of mainstream storage goliaths EMC and NetApp. When the storage array mainstream vendors discovered flash technology they did one of several things. EMC shoved Solid state disks into their arrays. NetApp added flash cache to their arrays so that data access requests to hot data took less time. Neither of these strategies required a rewrite of the array’s underlying O/S. The other strategy was...

Nimble Storage Supports 40,000 MS Exchange 2010 Mailboxes in Just 3U!!

Results recently posted on Microsoft’s Exchange 2010 Solution Reviewed Program (ESRP) website show that the Nimble Storage CS460-X2 — a 3U, 12-disk system — can support 40,000 MS exchange mailboxes. That’s 10-20x more mailboxes per disk than any other published solution on the Microsoft website. Nimble’s flash-optimised architecture accelerates read and write performance, and highly-efficient inline compression optimises capacity. Nimble customers running MS Exchange 2010 in production experience sub-millisecond latencies and an average compression rate of 1.8x. The combination of highly performant and efficient storage in a compact 3U form factor results in a storage system that is on average...
